Grids

            In this assignment my goal was to capture four images that flow as a whole. Some specific aspects that I focused on was abstract, large scale, patterns, and close up. Some grids I pieced together as a puzzle so that all four pieces fit in place with each other, and other grids i made sure that there was a common theme between all four images, and let that make the grid flow.

What I really enjoyed about this exhibit is that it was able to bring all different styles and types of photography together and make it one. Although each photographer was essentially attempting to capture the same idea, each image had its own uniqueness to it. I think that the photographers were trying to show both people at their best and people at their worst, and it was up for us as the audience to decide when each one is being portrayed. Just like our current multi-frame assignment where we were trying to create flow between one image and another, this exhibit does this as well. The flow that your eyes see from one image to the next is a spectacular way of viewing these images!

Henri- Cartier Bresson- 
I was completely blown away as I walked through what seemed like never ending rooms filled with the most eye-catching images. Each one was more powerful than the next. I enjoyed looking at where each image was taken and imaging what it would be like to be him, taking that photo in that place or time period. Also, you could really see how he progressed as a photographer and how his style changed ever so slightly as the images went on through time. I was also surprised to see that many of the images in the exhibit I had seem before, and never knew it was he who took them. Over all, Henri- Cartier Bresson is a very talented photographer with a very large archive of amazing and powerful photos.

Mutli-Frame

     In this set of photos, while taking them and editing them, I was looking for different objects, or different angles of the same object that would easily flow together as a series. While putting the final sets together I was able to look through my entire collection of images to see what would flow the best as a set of 3 or 2.

Hy Peskin

Hy Peskin: Sports Photographer

            Hy Peskin was one of the very first well known sports photographers in the 1930’s and 40’s.  He was born Jewish- American to a very poor family. Peskin had to sell newspaper’s in order to earn more money for his family. The story has it  that he saw a picture of an athlete in one of the newspapers he was selling and he admired the photograph and he was inspired to take pictures just like it. He first accepted a job a Life magazine where he took one of his most famous photographs of John F. and Jackie Kennedy. He then left the job a Life to pursue a different branch of photography. He started taking pictures of the Brooklyn Dodgers which helped him become a more well known photographer. After he was on the map, he was hired as the first on staff photographer at Sports Illustrated. By this time Hy Peskin was revolutionizing the world of sports photography becoming the starting point for all others to come after him.

            Hy Peskin was the first sports photographer to take risks with his photographs and over step the limits that had been put on sports photography. It was custom for sports photographers to stay up in the press box during games and only take far away, large-spectrum shots. Hy had the idea of actually going down on the field and taking more up close photographs in order to better capture the athletes expressions and movements. It is because of Hy Peskin that we have photographs of athletes on a more personal level, rather than them just playing their sport. Although there were other photographers that took pictures of sports before Peskin, none of them could really be classified as sports photographers.  Peskin really set the bar for aspiring sports photographers.

               

Final Series-Best of

      In this final series of images, my goal was to find a series of images that go together showing different shapes of the city. They are examples from outside and inside stores and close ups and far away shots showing different ways to see the city.
